The Christian Right which loves to act like it is being crucified liked Jesus (go figure) doesn’t understand the concept of Freedom of Speech. It does not mean that one does not face consequences from the populace and others for saying what they believe. People can be attacked for what they say, as long as it is not official government action.

Make no mistake, Rush is purposely using coded racist language. The right was all up in arms over some jokes from Wanda Sykes (which were awesome, btw) but I am sure they will remain quiet over some racist remarks!
11 May 09 Perez Hilton Is Moving Back The Gay Marriage/Rights Movement
He is totally the wrong carrier of the message. He has basically pulled Miss California to the right wing nut jobs defending “traditional” marriage. Would she have done this had Perez not crucified and insulted her for voicing an opinion (one that he asked) that is not that out there. Yeah, it may be homophobic and somewhat insensitive (hell, he never asked her if she believed in civil unions) remark but it is not that out of the mainstream that she is some kind of kook or something. Perez has basically created a martyr for their cause which is exactly what these groups need as the tide is turning against them. Perez is just a selfish asshole who is trying to get some media attention by flaming the fires of this hot-button issue.
I am just glad that Trump will not strip her of her Miss California crown - it would be a huge blow to the gay marriage rights movement - a huge one!
Shame on Perez!
11 May 09 Obama Administration To Get Tough On Antitrust Enforcement
And that’s a good thing! If we have companies that are too large to fail, then there are concentration problems that need to be fixed. Regulation of activities may help but also breaking up large corporations are good too so if one fails, then others will remain strong so no company is too large to fail. Antitrust enforcement really has been on the decline since 1980 - even if the Clinton Adminstration did go after Microsoft. Maybe, it is time for a change.

Who cares - I was still impressed with the performance (I don’t have a high standard for Paula). Almost any act where the artist does intest choreography, the artist will lip sync - one can’t sing and dance like that at the same time.
As for those knocking Paula Abdul for lipsyncing on American Idol - she does have 6 #1 singles and has sold over 50 million records - so I guess she has paid her dues!
06 May 09 Since I Have Been Big On Blogging Gay Marriage Today
Maine became the fourth state to legalize gay marriage - and the second to do so through the legislative process (Connecticut is kind of a third). It is becoming harder for conservatives to fight against gay marriage as being the product of active judiciary. Conservatives should respect the legislative process and states rights - which does mean not supporting DOMA or a Marriage Amendment to the Constitution.

But Marion Barry just felt the need to stoke the fire. Not only was Barry the only DC council member to vote against a resolution recognizing gay marriages from other states, he basically said he was voting this way because of the black commuity, who makes up 98% of his constituents (Barry, himself, has been a proponent of gay rights). Quote like this from Barry, don’t help:
“All hell is going to break lose. We may have a civil war. The black community is just adamant against this.”
“I am representing my constituents . . . 98 percent of my constituents are black, and we don’t have but a handful of openly gay residents.”
Lord only knows what happened to Barry when he had his kidney surgery earlier this year. Is he that much of an opportunist. Fortunately, Mayor Fenty is not as fearful of a civil war abrupting in the District and will sign the resolution.
06 May 09 Idiotic Argument Against Gay Marriage of the Day
Heather MacDonald from the Secular Right - gay marriage would further undermine marriage in the black community. I am trying to figure this one out. Ms. MacDonald writes:
One overpowering cause of black social failure is the breakdown of marriage in the black community. Nationally, the black illegitimacy rate is 71%; in some inner city areas, it is closer to 90%. When boys grow up without any expectation that they will have to marry the mother of their children, they fail to learn the most basic lesson of personal responsibility. A community without the marriage norm is teetering on the edge of civilizational collapse, if it has not already fallen into the abyss. Fatherless black boys, who themselves experience no pressure to become marriageable mates as they grow up, end up joining gangs, dropping out of school, and embracing a “street” lifestyle in the absence of any male authority in the home.
If the black illegitimacy rate were not nearly three times the rate of whites’, I would have few qualms about gay marriage. Or if someone can guarantee that widespread gay marriage would not further erode the expectation among blacks that marriage is the proper context for raising children, I would also not worry. But no one can make that guarantee.
This is absolutely crazy (and pretty racist as well as homophobic in my opinion) and I won’t even get into her reasons as to why gay marriage will lead to higher illegitimacy in the black community. Let me get this straight, the author cannot support gay marriage because black men don’t respect the institution of marriage and won’t marry their baby’s mama (just like Levi Johnston and the sainted Bristol Palin). If gays can marry then black men will further have disrespect for the institution of marriage. BTW, why not do an empirical study and see if black men in Massachusetts have higher rates of not marrying the baby mama than those in other states.
I just had to add this argument:
Black failure is at present a greater social problem in my view than whether gays who already have the right of civil unions have the right to marry as well. For similar reasons, I have always been appalled at the campaign by gay rights groups to shut down inner city Boy Scout organizations if they don’t toe the line on gay rights. A Scout troop may be the only hope that a black 11-year-old in Brooklyn has to learn self-discipline and deferred gratification. That black kid’s life chances are a lot bleaker than any gay white Eagle scout leader.
As for the white Eagle scout leader - what about the gay black Eagle scout leader - I guess a straight black male is worth more than a gay one!!! Now, for my little bit of controversy, but I do believe that the general break down in marriage - among all ethnic groups - is the result of the feminist movement of the 1960s and 1970s and the control women took over their bodies and lives. Sexual freedom for women led to sexual irresponsibility for men. So, if Ms. MacDonald truly is concerned about black marriage, then she should be for the rollback of the feminist gains of the last 40 years. But, as most straights arguing against gay marriage - they always look to gays undermining what straights themselves have undermined. Stupid, stupid argument!!!
06 May 09 Why People Find Right Wingers Hypocrits!
Bristol Palin. Why is it, now that she has had her child, and broke up with the baby’s daddy, she is going to become some sort of ambassador of abstinence. What right does she have to claim that teenagers should practice abstinence when she refused to do so. Without being totally cynical, certain Christians believe so strongly in redemption that they feel they can get away with what they preach others not to do. Now, being totally cynical, Bristol is only doing this to save and to help her mother’s political aspirations. It’s a shame what it takes to be accepted seriously by the base of the Republican Party today.
Media whore and baby daddy, Levi Johnston at least gets it right calling abstinence only education as “unrealistic.”

05 May 09 Why Do We Still Debate Teaching “Creationism” In School?
This time the jackals women from the View. Now, I still don’t think that creationism and evolution are mutually exclusive only because evolution does not explain how the universe was created in the first place (where did all that matter come from for the big bang), but creationism is not science. And that is the essential reason why it should not be taught in science class - IT IS NOT BASED ON SCIENTIFIC THOUGHT OR THE SCIENTIFIC METHOD! Further, whose view of creationism will be taught - I am pretty damn sure it will be the Judeo-Christian view of Creation. Why not teach Eastern and Native American views of creationism.
My big thing with creationists - if you take the Bibles literal version of creation as science then man and dinosaurs walked the Earth at the same time (man created first, animals second). If man and dinosaurs walked the earth at the same time, how did man defeat and force the extinction of the dinosaurs. Also, when did God create man. I don’t get it - it makes sense to me than the Earth is 5 billion years old and that man has evloved from lower forms of life over time. It doesn’t answer who created it, but even so - it doesn’t need to be taught or it could be taught in 3 seconds. Seriously, how long does it take to teach creationism - less than a minute. I mean, seriously, what is there to teach children.
05 May 09 What’s Wrong With Marion Barry?
Okay, I know there are many many ways I can go with this. The DC Council voted to recognize gay marriages performed in other states. Initially it was unanimous but then Marion Barry realized what he was voting for so he asked for reconsideration and the finally tally was 12-1 in favor of the proposal. Barry has pretty much been a nut job on the issue - first co-sponsoring the bill but then taking it back when he realized what it was. Further, just a week ago he was leading a rally over in Freedom Plaza against the bill because it was an issue of morality. Taking morality lessons from Marion Barry - classic!
